It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
What is your burden today?
My burden is seeing myself, and others set free from abusers. If you are in an abusive situation at work, at home, or even at school today, then you can choose God’s freedom.
Remember, that Jesus came to set us free from any yoke of slavery. For the Galatians, Paul was speaking to them about why they were returning to keeping the law, rather than learning about walking in God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. For it is God’s Son who came to fulfill all of the requirements of the law so that you and I are no longer burdened by our former ways.
If you happened to be yoked to an abusive person, then let Jesus remove that heavy burden in exchange for His yoke which is easy and light. Ask Jesus to come between you and your abuser, choose to forgive his/her transgression, do not permit him/her any further access into your life (i.e. refrain from giving out personal information), and let Jesus give you the stamina to walk in His mercy, grace, and profound love.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Let your freedom come to anyone who is yoked by a burden of slavery. For we are no longer slaves to our own sin, nor the sin of others, so that you can teach us how to walk more freely, as we abide in your marvelous love, mercy, and grace. Amen.
