So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].” (John 8:31-32)
Is there something or someone who can set you free?
When I think of the words of Jesus, I think of God being able to set me free from the kingdom of darkness, the lies of the enemy, and transferring me into the kingdom of His beloved Son.
This transformation excites me, as I see Jesus helping me to know Him as the truth, by restoring me in right relationship with my Heavenly Father, and changing me from the inside out, so that I can behold more of His image (or glory) within me, namely Christ in me, the hope of glory.
So, I choose to abide in the words of Jesus of Nazareth, in order to know the truth, and to have Him, as my truth, set me free.
Let your Word have its way in our lives. Give us ears to hear what you are saying, eyes to see what you are doing, hearts to believe what you are revealing, and minds to be transformed by the renewing of your Word. For we desire to live as your disciples so that your truth can set us free. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
