Prayer Life Struggles

Are you struggling in your prayer life? Maybe you have given up, or you just don’t know what to say anymore. Why bother, you might say? You have asked God to take away your pain, and yet you continue to suffer. You know that your struggle is real, and you just want some relief, so why isn’t God answering your prayers right now?

For every believer in Jesus Christ, there comes a time when every one of us needs help. It’s easy to become discouraged when things haven’t changed. It may seem like you’ve passed this way before, and yet you’re on the same road again, with no end in sight. There’s more negative stuff to deal with, and it may feel overwhelming. So, what is a person to do?

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Get real with God: share your disappointments, regrets, and discouragement with Him, so that your true feelings can be the place of an honest dialogue with Him.
  2. Get real with others: share your concerns with other authentic believers, and let them minister God’s comfort to you. Ask them to listen to you, pray for you, and spend time with you, as you need it.
  3. Seek professional help:  Sometimes seeking the counsel of your minister, therapist, or other professionally trained individuals, can really improve your perspective on life.
  4. Let God’s Word speak to you: King David set aside time to share his feelings with God so that he could also make room for God’s response. As you read your bible, ask the Holy Spirit for His understanding, and let Him direct you to the scriptures that He has in mind for you.

These above suggestions are merely a primer to help you to connect with God, with others, and to become more aware of your true feelings.

As you identify your struggles with God, may you encounter His peace, be transformed by His love, and be renewed in your mind.

Struggles with God are simply an indication that there is more to work out with Him, as you choose to follow Him, listen to Him, and seek His direction. So, be encouraged as you grow in your relationship with Him, through faith in Jesus Christ, for He remains ever-so-faithful to complete His finished work within you.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

May every believer be reminded of your care, be encouraged by your support, and know that they are never forgotten. May their temporary afflictions cause them to turn to you, so that they might know you more fully, rest in you more deeply, and be satisfied by your amazing love. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for every believer who relies on you for their life, and trusts in you for their salvation. Amen.
