Last night we received word from the doctor that my Mom had passed away.
She had collapsed on the bathroom floor sometime last week, and she was found by her public nurse, and an OPP officer, late Monday afternoon. Its estimated that she had been lying on the floor for several days, and it appears that she had fallen because of a stroke.
Since last Monday, she has been well taken care of by hospital staff. Her public nurse has been visiting my Mom in her home ever since my Dad died in March of this year. Her nurse has been such a blessing to all of us, that I cannot say enough good things about her.
On Friday morning, I recorded two songs, and a prayer on my phone, and sent it to my Mom’s nurse, who in turn played it for my Mom. This nurse told me that my Mom was comforted by the sound of my voice and the songs that I sang to her.
Today starts a new journey for us. My Mom and Dad, who both knew the Lord Jesus as both Lord and Savior are enjoying eternity with Him, and with each other. I think our dog, Hannah, who died about a year ago will also be in their midst, and probably playing fetch with them, which was one of her favorite games.
My Mom was able to live in her own home, which was her desire, up until her stroke. She was an independent, strong-willed, and faithful woman, who loved the Lord, and who knew how to live one day at a time. I miss her, yet I am relieved that there is no longer any pain, nor tears, nor sorrow in her way, but rather abundant joy.
So, today, I celebrate my Mom as a faithful homemaker, who was married to my Dad for over 65 years, and what an honor it is to remember her on this day. Amen.
