Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14)
Why do we ask in the name of Jesus?
We ask in Jesus’ name in order for the Father to be glorified in the Son (John 14:13-14), to receive the fullness of God’s joy that no one can take away (John 16:24), to have the confidence that when we pray according to His will, He hears us (1 John 5:14), and to see the life of Jesus manifested in our lives as we abide with Him, and allow His Words to remain in us (John 15:7).
Will you ask in His name?
Today, Jesus wants us to ask in His name with the familiar words of Matthew 7:7-8:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
We come to you, because we believe that you are the Son of God, and by believing in you, we have life in your name (John 20:31). May you fill us afresh with your amazing love, your extravagant grace, your unending mercy, and your renewed hope.
Please remove from us any worry we are carrying, and safeguard our minds and our hearts with your peace. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for hearing our prayers, and answering our requests. We ask this to be done in your name, by your power, and for your glory. Amen.
